I was thinking it might be kinda neat to have a thread for asking or telling about ideas or methods for certain effects or details of art stuffs. On the computer, or off, if you wanted.
Maybe it's unecesseary, but ah well. Just curious as to what other people are doing and thought it might be nice to compare options and such.
For example: how would you guys go about making rain? Or snow? I have some ideas, but want to know yours. ;D

Making rain:
In the "In the Storm" theme, I made a brand new layer on top of all the other layers, filled it with white, and set it to "Multiply," which basically made a completely invisible layer.
Then I added noise to that layer (Max intensity, no color saturation, moderate coverage), which put little black dots all over. I used the zoom function to make the dots bigger, then motion blur to streak the dots.
Then, for good measure, I duplicated that layer, and zoomed it back out a bit, so there'd be more sizes of raindrops.
If I were to try again, I'd zoom in a bit, streak it, and THEN zoom in a bit more in the duplicate layer, to eliminate the conspicuous edge where the pattern repeats.

I don't really have any interesting methods. I just do whatever's faster. Unless you count pestering Jason, for critique. :U That's the best thing I ever did!
I don't use layers, unless I absolutely must. Since I don't draw backgrounds, very often, I tend to do everything, on one layer. Most of my backgrounds are just random patterns, so that's how I treat them. I just make them a pattern, and dunk it in the back.
I'll let you know, when I find something useful. As soon as my new tablet pen comes in, that is. >3>

*Laugh!!!* Cool. Maybe I'll come back here if I find out that any of my ideas work... XD

Today's comic's background (the swirly blue thing): In Paint.Net:
1. Make layer solid black 2. Add Noise: Max Color Sat., Max Coverage, Max Intensity 3. Distort > Crystallize: Large scale. 4. Layer > Sepia 5. Use Layer > Hue Saturation to turn it Blue 6. Effects > Distort > Dents; adjust to taste. 8. Done.

Heh. Neat. Heh... Sounds a lot more detailed than any of the background ideas that I have had with whatever I've played with... ;D More steps, anyway.

Eh, it's not really that complex, it's just stacking effects on top of each other, for the most part.

Okay, kind of on the same note, but a little different... >.> I can't get Photobucket to work. >.< ... No... what I mean is I can't even get Photobucket to open.I just get some error page... I was going to put something up a while ago and start talking in here more when I did... but I haven't gotten Photobucket to open for days... O.o So I just went straight for talking in here, again. But still. I have actually thought of getting a different image hosting site... Any suggestions? (And, of course, bits of advice for getting back into my Photobucket account...?)

I don't like it... >.>
Hm... I guess I can go ahead and try to find a different image hosting site, for now. Maybe Photobucket and Forumsigs will work again, sometime...?

Hmm...Photobucket seems to be working for some people, and not for others. My info is secondhand, since I don't use Photobucket, but you might try a full reload (Shift+F5) on the Photobucket site, and see if it helps any.
No clue for Forumsigs, since I've never used it at all.

I think Forumsigs might be dead for real.
It looks like their server has ceased to exist, but the domain hasn't been re-purposed yet, so maybe not.

Yeah... Still a no-go, for me, though I don't know why... Ah, well. Maybe I'll come back with a picture when I find a different image hosting site... ;D

Imageshack and Tinypic are great hosts. I highly recommend either of them. Also, I've actually been using layers. Not an insane amount of them, but two or three more than I usually do.

Hahaha. Nice. I really like the layers... XD Hm... I got Photobucket open, again... (whether it is because I have fast Internet now, or not, I can't say... but I'm not complaining ;D ). I think I will use that until some time when I can sit down and go through image hosting sites to find one I like.
